Recently, I really feel the heat of rice increased, seriously.
Public transport fees are raised almost every year, but bit by it. So I can still tahan. But for the past 2, 3 months, I feel like, the fire is burning in front of my face.
Let’s talk about the Kopitiam at the basement floor of my work place. All the food stalls, either increased their prices, or they closed down. Out of all the 12 (roughly, not sure about the exact number) stall space, I think 2, or 3 are empty. 1 of them was vacant since 1 brownie stall closed shop last August, and the other one has been vacant since the day I joint my current company 16 months back. Then the remaining stalls which are still selling, 3 or 4 did not increase their prices I think, because their prices have already been very expensive.
Recent morning, my colleagues and I had breakfast there. I took the left while my colleague took the right hand side one.

Mine was S$2.50 while my colleague’s S$3.20. They are not even mixed rice for lunch but economic beehun! Then 1 morning, I saw 1 uncle bought beehun with 2 vegetables from the vegetarian stall. That cost him S$2.40.
I love taking Yong Tauhu. There is a chain stall which has branches at both East Link Mall and the S-11 nearby. Last time I always went there. 7 pieces of yong tauhu/vegetables (minimum have to choose 7 pieces), plus mee or beehun in soup would cost me S$3.20. I was happy with it and I feel it worth it. Then, I think since 2 months back, they raised their price to 1 piece 50 cents, mee or beehun also 50 cents. So if I take 7 pieces again, plus mee or beehun in soup, it costs me $4 now. A freaking 20% increase. I never go to them since then.
I can choose going to certain stalls to eat, but there are things that I just cannot avoid. Take a look:
1. For the quarter 1 Apr to 30 Jun 08, the electricity tariffs will be increased by an average 5.7% or 1.26 cents (S$0.0126) per kWh. It is listed HERE, look for the update dated 19th March.
2. Rice price increased. Yes this is a global issue, and government said no worry. But, the price still increased! And I have to eat rice, or stuff manufactured from rice!
3. Bread prices were already increased few months back, but I will not be surprised if they gonna raise it again.
4. Then now it said that because the prices of rice and fish increased, so the price of sushi may follow. And they could adjust it next month. Fortunately I don’t live on sushi but heck, I do love sushi!
5. Then, tissue paper and toilet price also will be increased. I guess once this Beautex raises their price on 14th April, other brands will just follow suit. I can stop using tissue paper but I have to shit and I still need toilet paper, and I can’t control myself to shit less!
6. Cab fares already increased few months back and I still feel the pain. Weird things is taxi uncles don’t seem to be happy with the fare increment, which is supposed “to help them earn more”.
7. Even the McDelivery charge was increased to S$3 from S$2 per trip.
8. 5 more ERP gantries. Well, I don’t drive, but I took cab and this will also affect me!
Everything increase, and everyone knows what I am going to say next. Why pay never increase?
