Massive sexual assault by underage children in S. Korea
This is terrible. Something is very wrong in the society. Sexual assault by underage kids on the younger kids? 100 over victims? And the kids learned it from internet? I feel sad for the young little victims…

S. Korea startled by massive sexual assault case by underage children
혻 혻 SEOUL, May 1 (Yonhap) — Shock swirled in South Korea on Thursday after police began a probe into a massive sexual assault case that reportedly involved dozens of elementary school children emulating pornographic Internet materials while school officials kept mum about it for months.
혻 혻 South Korea is one of the world’s most wired countries, with more than 30 million of its 49 million people having high-speed access to the Web. The case came to light Wednesday when the local press reported over 100 children at an elementary school in the southeastern city of Daegu either molested each other or were forced to engage in such activities.
혻혻 The reports jolted many South Korean parents who were still reeling from recent cases of attacks against underage school girls, two of whom were found dead last month after being sexually attacked while another was seen on closed-circuit video surviving an assault in an elevator.
혻혻 According to several civic groups and police in the city of Daegu, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the school children emulated behavior on Web videos rated inappropriate for their age and coerced lower-grade students to engage in sexual activities in facilities such as the playground.
혻혻 Those who refused were branded traitors, beaten or alienated from their peer groups, the civic groups and reports said, while some of the molested students molested others, spreading the misdeeds.
혻혻 The case erupted into a major sexual assault case on Thursday when police said they took into custody six male students, most of whom confessed to sexually assaulting eight female children early last week.
혻혻 The police added they are also investigating allegations of widespread sexual molestation that civic groups claim have taken place at the school since November last year, and were not controlled.
혻혻 South Koreans are enraged that the school officials may have kept silent about the case even though they were aware of it.
혻 혻 “I prayed this would not be true,” said Kim Seon-kyeong, a 39-year-old housekeeper who has a girl in the fourth grade at an elementary school. “I’m simply befuddled about how anything like this could happen at a school.”
“It’s only been weeks since previous attacks occurred against children,” said Jeong Hyun-chul, a 32-year-old father of a toddler. “I don’t know how I’ll manage to raise my children in an environment like this.”
The elementary school acknowledged it became aware of cases of molestation when it conducted its own survey in February but tried to deal with it through educational admonitions rather than by punishing those involved.혻혻 “We saw molesters as the victims of pornographic materials and sought to address it through education rather than by penalties,” the head of the school said this week in an interview, declining to be named.
혻혻 “We tried to deal with it on our own and consulted with related parents. We cannot accept the allegations that we tried to hide it,” the official said.
혻 혻 Nam Eun-ju, an activist calling for better sexual education, said the school officials were incompetent and lacked the knowledge of how to deal with the effects of widespread Internet videos suggesting sexual activities.
“Just telling children not to watch pornographic materials makes them feel more inclined to go after them,” she said. “Our schools don’t have the capacity to treat and educate these children when things like this happen.”
