Why Is It So Difficult To Open Your Mouth And Ask?
It is kind of annoying to see this kind of article on STOMP again, and again. A 27-year-old mother with 2 kids, 1 5-year-old and 1 1-year-old, took MRT from Jurong to Bedok. She complained that along the long journey, no one on the train is gracious enough to offer the 3 of them a seat.
“I’m just utterly upset about the fact that I was travelling on the MRT line from Jurong to Bedok and no one care to give up their seat to us,” she said.
“My son being so pure to think that we were too late for a seat, did not even grumble over it and decided to sit on the floor instead.
“The rest of the commuters in the train could see that I was alone with my two children and struggling to pacify and take care of them, and yet everyone in the carriage, including those in the priority seats did not bother to offer a seat to my tired son.
“Some were openly staring at us but none offered any assistance.”
The STOMPer added: “I think that it is quite sad that Singaporeans are bothering to give up their seats to those who need it more.”
Why? Why never did S open her mouth and ask the commuters if they can have a seat? Why did S expect people to offer her the seat while she herself didn’t even bother to ask? Does S really love her kids? If I were S and if it caused me so much heart pain to see my own tired son sitting on the train floor, I would immediately ask, ask for a seat from commuters in the cabin. And I am sure that someone in the cabin will be gracious enough to offer his/her seat if I bother to ask.
I don’t agree with those commuters who never took initiatives to offer S’s family a seat in the cabin. But I am even more annoyed by S’s attitude shown in the article. I feel that she is just too proud, too ego to ask, and push all the responsibilities to others.
I don’t expect to be given, offered anything in life, I work, I strive for what I want, even if it is just a seat on train.
