Queen Elizabeth Escaped Assassination 40 Years Ago
What could have happened if it succeed?
Jan. 28 (Bloomberg) — Queen Elizabeth II escaped assassination in Australia in 1970 when unknown people attempted to derail the royal train on a mountain pass, the Lithgow Mercury reported, citing the detective who investigated the incident.
A log was placed in front of the train carrying the British monarch and Prince Philip to the town of Orange, 250 kilometers (155 miles) west of Sydney, the Mercury cited Cliff McHardy as saying. The train struck the log at Bowenfels in the Blue Mountains and continued for about 200 meters while braking with the log jammed underneath, the Mercury said.
