A suspected United States’ child molester spent his first full day in custody yesterday as the Criminal Investigation Bureau was investigating whether he committed any offenses in Taiwan.
The bureau arrested the man, identified as 58-year-old Mark Lee Kaczmarczyk, on Taipei’s Dunhua South Road Sunday evening.
The bureau used a young female agent pretending to be looking for an English language teacher.
The suspect entered Taiwan last Jan. 8 and had been living in the capital’s Eastern District, police said.
Cable stations reported that he always greeted his neighbors, often hugged them, and invited them out for lunch. He also told them he was interested in opening a kindergarten in Taiwan.
