8 Things To Do If You Can’t Stand This Hot Weather

The weather in Singapore has been extremely hot and humid recently. Some time I just cannot tahan the heat. It is very very very HOT. There are a few things that I do to “cool” myself:

1. Head over to the neighbourhood library. This is my 1st choice. It is free (maybe you need to pay for transport to get there of cause if you don’t stay nearby the library), the toilets there are free, the seats there are free (you don’t have to buy a cup of drink in order to sit/rest there), the power supply there is also free. But, the competition nowadays is very fierce. Most of the time when I reached there in the afternoon, there is no more seat next to power plug available. If I am luck I may get one. But never mind, I can survive with my netbook/laptop battery. The only thing I am not comfortable with is that I alwasy don’t feel safe to go toilet or makan alone, leaving my netbook/laptop on the seat. I will suggest going with a friend together, so that you have someone to take care of your stuffs when you are away, and vice versa.

2. Swimming pool. This is not free if you are staying in HDB like me. I start to envy my colleague who stay in condo. He literally walks to his “backyard and jump into the pool” everyday…….

3. Office. the hot weather is making me to love my office more and more. I seriously don’t like to go out out for lunch under this hot and bitter sun. I would have called for food delivery every working day if not for the fact that it is too expensive. And I am willing to stay late in office to clear my work which I will normally do in the next day, just to enjoy the aircon a little longer.

4. Go shopping. If you have the money to burn, go shopping in any shopping mall. You can enjoy all the cold air there. Some more, now is GSS!

5. Cafes, bistro, foodcourts, fastfood restaurants, ect. Most of these places are air-conditioned. As long as you buy a cup of drink, or some food there, you can enjoy your time there. But I will try to avoid those that are very crowded. I don’t feel comfortable, and don’t want to disturb their business as well. I find the Kopitiam at Century Square not bad. It is normally not crowded.

6. Ikea Tampines maybe a good choice for those who stay in the east. The parking is free, there are shuttle bus from Bedok, Tampines and Sengkang MRT station. If you are a Ikea Member with the OCBC Ikea card, you are entitled for 2 free drinks some more!

7. Travel. A trip to Hokaido maybe? I think even a short trip to Genting Highland, Cameron Highland will be refreshing.

8. Maybe, it is time to have an aircon in your room now……
