New York Underwear Run 2009
This Underwear Run looks very interesting. If I’m not wrong, it is part of the Nautica New York City Triathlon activities.
The Central Park Underwear Run is a 1.7 mile fun run that takes place every year on the Friday before the New York City Triathlon. No transitions, no timing chips, no expensive race gear, just 500 strangers running around in their underwear. Another typical summer evening in New York City!
CENTRAL PARK (WPIX) – Hundreds of runners dressed in nothing but their skivvies are set to race through Central Park in hopes of setting a new record for the “largest gathering of people wearing underpants.”
Mayoral hopeful the Naked Cowboy – who announced his bid for the city’s top seat this week – will also be on hand, filling the role of Grand Marshall of the 1.7 mile run.
Although runners will be leaving nothing to the imagination, organizers say participants will not be allowed to run if they arrive in thongs. The “no thong” rule has been instated since the run started.
The Central Park Underwear Run takes place every year on the Friday before the New York City Triathlon which takes place on Sunday.
Runners who make it to the finish line receive a medal modeled after NYC’s first subway token.
