Magali Jaskiewicz and Jonathan George, 25, had informed the town hall they planned to tie the knot just two days before the tragedy.
Despite this, Magali, 26, became Jonathan’s official widow during a ceremony in the village of Dommary-Baroncourt, in Lorraine.
A little-known section of the French civil code states it is possible for a bride or groom to marry a dead fiancé as long as there is clear evidence that they planned to marry before the loved one died.
She proved to officials that she and Mr George had been living together since 2004 and that they shared a bank account. She also provided a photo of the wedding dress she had bought for their wedding.
