“Yes, there is some special treatment. I cannot deny that it does exist, but I want to get more information about it,” Patrialis said after a meeting with the police and the police watchdog in Jakarta on Monday.
He added that he would evaluate the findings of the presidential judiciary corruption team during last night’s raid of a room where convicted Artalyta Suryani is serving her sentence for bribery.
“I visited the penitentiary. The general director told me the karaoke room was for public entertainment. I have yet to find out the exact conditions of the penitentiary so I need clear reports on all of that,” the minister said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
He added the limited number of officers guarding detention centers and their small wages were major factor in the problem.
“We will take some steps such as requiring all heads of detention centers to report all activities once a week,” he said.
He added that he might impose administrative sanctions on officers involved in the provision of luxurious facilities for Artalyta.
“But firstly we will review the level of violation,” he said. (ewd)
