An orangutan in Heidelberg Zoo has attracted attention after teaching himself to whistle. Now the 14-year-old ape has recorded his first CD.

Although somewhat underrated as a musical technique, a spot of whistling can often add a certain something to a song. Who can forget Otis Redding’s poignant whistling on the soul classic “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” or the haunting whistle refrain on the fall-of-the-Wall rock anthem “Wind of Change” by Germany’s Scorpions?

Now a whistling orangutan at Heidelberg Zoo in Germany is set to release his first CD. Entitled “Ich Bin Ujian” (“I Am Ujian”), the CD single by Ujian, a 14-year-old orangutan, will go on sale at the zoo in June. Proceeds will go toward the extension and renovation of the zoo’s ape house.

After 15 months of toilet break, Singapore’s most wanted hunk is finally arrested in Johor Baru, Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen months after his audacious escape from detention in Singapore, Mas Selamat Kastari has been caught in Malaysia.

Singapore’s most wanted terrorist was captured on April 1 while hiding in Johor, regional intelligence sources told The Straits Times.

It is believed that he was nabbed in the outskirts of Johor Baru and is now being held by the Malaysian authorities for interrogation.

It is not known how he slipped out of Singapore or when he entered Malaysia.

Although he was arrested six weeks ago, the Malaysian authorities have not yet announced the capture.

A senior Malaysian government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest and said that Mas Selamat was being held under the country’s Internal Security Act.

He declined to say when the terrorist would be handed over to the Singapore authorities.

It is believed that the fugitive had stayed in Johor all this time and had not travelled further north. He is also believed to be detained in Johor.

Sources told The Straits Times that the 48-year-old was tracked down based on intelligence provided by Singapore’s Internal Security Department (ISD), and a joint operation by Malaysia and Singapore’s security agencies eventually led to his arrest.

The capture of Mas Selamat brings to an end one of the largest manhunts ever undertaken by Singapore and its neighbours for a terrorist on the run.

Horny horny chimpanzee, naughty naughty.

COPS are investigating a chimp after it tried to RAPE a female zoo keeper.

Terrified Valentina Kirilova had to fight off the sex-crazed primate when he grabbed her as she gave him a banana at Rostov Zoo in Russia.

Valentina said of the attack: I have spent a lot of time around the primates but I’d never imagined that a lonely chimpanzee could see me as a sex object.

The lusty ape, called Otello, broke the horrified keeper’s wrist as he pulled her into his cage and began to attack her.

When I tried to pass a banana to him, the chimpanzee grabbed my hand and pulled me into the cage and tried to rape me, said Valentina.

Really? The Zodiac Killer?

Deborah Perez announced at a news conference in San Francisco that she even rode in the car with the 1960s Bay Area serial killer when he went out to kill. Police are waiting for proof.

The Zodiac, the hooded serial killer who menaced the Bay Area 40 years ago, has so fascinated the public that major motion pictures, books and blogs have been devoted to sifting through clues for his identity.

Just when you thought every angle had been covered, along comes Deborah Perez, who announced at a raucous sidewalk news conference in San Francisco that the Zodiac was her dad and she rode in his car when he went out to kill.

Perez, 47, a real estate agent who lives in Corona, has, by one estimate, joined about 1,200 people who have boasted of knowing the identity of the man who stalked lovers lanes and taunted the police with letters to the media.

In a telephone interview Thursday, Perez said she had come forward to assuage her own conscience.

“I am not a wacko,” she said. “I am not looking for 15 minutes of fame. This is not about that. This is about getting the truth out and telling the truth for these families.”

She said she had gone to the FBI and the police, but was disappointed by their reaction.

KUANTAN: A teenaged couple, who had spent the night together having sex in the girl’s house, was caught after the boyfriend apparently dozed off.

The girl’s stepmother was shocked to find the naked man in bed with the sleeping girl when she came to wake her up for school on Tuesday morning.

State CID chief Asst Comm T. Narenasagaran said the stepmother, aged 46, went to the girl’s room on the second floor of the house at about 7.10am.

When she opened the door, she spotted the 18-year-old youth, who then got up to dress.

“The woman questioned the youth, who later admitted having sex with the girl as they were lovers.

“A police report was lodged and we have detained the youth,” he said, adding that initial investigations revealed that the youth had sneaked into the girl’s room the night before.

The case has been classified as rape.

The power of pre-natal education?

A newborn baby has started talking in the Russian city of Norilsk, amazing his parents and the obstetricians, who nevertheless claim pre-natal education can work miracles.

According to the Yoki.ru website, the baby boy pronounced his first word right after he was born, distinctly saying: “Papa!”

In just a few minutes, newborn Stepan said: “Mama!”

The next day, when the boy’s mother was telling him that his dad was about to visit them at the hospital, he asked: “Who? Papa?”

The boy’s mother, Lisa Bazheyeva, is just 17 years old.

The obstetrician who helped her in labor confirms the proud mother’s report.

“I heard with my own ears that the newborn baby spoke!” said Doctor Marina Panova, adding she had never seen anything of the kind in the 23 years that she worked at the maternity clinic.

“Newborns just can’t pronounce syllables as complicated as that,” she said.

“The fetus can learn while still in the mother’s womb. If a mother talks to the fetus, entertains it as if it has been born already, the baby is usually born gifted,” Panova said.
