Shall I Put Back Advertlets Ads Now Or Wait Till After This Weekend?

I saw Josh’s latest blog post. He was saying that Advertlets will be having upgrading of their banwidth this coming weekend. And he also said that, it is really the saga of certain Hongkong celebrities that caused the lag in loading.

Currently, I have taken off Advertlets ads from my blog, and I saw major improvement in loading. I can reach Advertlets site rather easily, at this moment. I am still thinking if I shall have Advertlets ads back on my blog now, or I shall wait till this weekend. I seriously hope that the upgrade will help.

Also, he was saying that we are now also earning from international traffic. This is new to me. I am eager to know the details! I do hope by accepting international traffics other than those from Singapore and Malaysia, our earning will increase.

Temporarily Taken Off Advertlets Ads

Advertlets homepage is not reachable at the moment. Those ads on my site could not be displayed, but still taken up the time to load my page. So I have taken off all Advertlets ads temporarily. The lagging in loading has lasted almost whole day, and I saw a drop in my Google Adsense income…

Advertlets, do something please.

Meanwhile, maybe I should try Gokita.

Advertlets Problem Again, Is It Due to Edison Scandals?

Today, again, Advertlets is causing problem loading of Jialat dot Com. I have lost counts already. I keep faith with Advertlets, and continue serving Advertlets ads after their domain name saga. Things got better right after that and the owner did share with the members that they will upgrade their servers, and system. Though, once a while, the script would still get a bit of problem loading (hence causing the lag of Jialat dotCom), but it was still acceptable.

However, I found the situation gotten worse, since 2 weeks before CNY. The frequency of lagging has been rather high, and the period become longer. It either took long time to load the ads, or it would just show the error code in the ads. One of the code I noticed is “…. exceeds maximum connections”, something like that.

Coincidently, the Edison Chen sex scandals saga surfaced around the same time, and I started following the whole incident and doing whatever following up here. And, it brought me tonnes of visitors, much much more than the period before this. I believe, other blogs that reported on, discussed this incident, or shared the photo links, also benefit from this saga and gained a lots more traffic. And maybe they serve Advertlets ads also.

So, is it this Edison saga, that caused the lag of Advertlets? Do Advertlets need to do something to keep up with the traffics?

I Wonder Where is Nuffnang’s innit Heading to? Is It Your Loss to Be Out?

When I decided that I still want ads from other SEA ads company on this blog, it meant I would be out of the Nuffnang Exclusive club and the usage of it’s innit service.

Actually, initially, I was rather sad, or felt that it was really pity, because I thought init could be a rather good tool to bring in traffic, since Jialat dot Com is so new. Since the day that I was out, which was 13rd Jan (or was I ever IN the club? I wonder, keke), I visit innit once or twice a daily, to see if there is anything good, funny, useful, to read.

However, today, I totally feel that, it is not a loss to me. First of all, the traffic there is actually not very great, not as great as ping.sg, or tomorrow.sg. I compare the traffic that I ever gotten from innit, to those I gotten from ping.sg or tomorrow.sg, or even those organic traffics from search engines in recent days, it is really peanut (not the 600k Sing dollars one of cause lah). And I found that, since the activation of the exclusive club, I guess many are kept out of the club, and hence it seems that the traffic there drops a lots. Many times, I saw the most popular post on the chart, the number 1, was with just 20 over clicks, or less. Ok, 20 over clicks is still traffic, but it really seems pathetic to me.

Another thing that I am not so happy with innit, since day one, is the fact that we the bloggers need to actually “add post” manually, instead of, like what ping.sg is doing, auto-update with maybe 1 click on the button. I have to admit that I am not so familiar with innit, maybe I was wrong and there is this function there. Can anyone enlighten me? This is really troublesome. Every time I got a new article, I have to go there, add new post, copy and paste, copy and paste, and copy and paste a few times, to get it done. What if I got a few articles in a day? I got to do it as many times! What’s worst is, some people just abuse the service. Unlike ping.sg which is by tracking the blog’s feed, and what’s updated will always be the latest (I think we can still play with it by changing our post’s timestamp, am I right?), innit this pure manual system gives users a loophole. I encountered before that, once I saw a thread title which was rather interesting, and I clicked on it. Upon entering the blog, then I realized that it was actually a post that was few months old. The users can anyhow manually add any post, regardless of the timestamp.

The last thing, which I feel most uncomfortable now, is that it seems like it is becoming a Nuffnang fans club or worshiping site, instead of blog networking. Every time I visit there, for sure I would see some Nuffnang-praising articles there. There are always a few such articles among the top 10 posts also. And I heard, there is administrator and if your article was of something bad about Nuffnang, it would be removed. It means you will only see those articles about the founder’s attending certain national TV programmes, about those activities sponsored by the company, about their gathering, about how much they earned from the company, and how proud they are to be in the club. How about those unhappy stuffs? Those negative issues? I doubt people there will get to see those. It makes me uncomfortable because the way it is run now, is so so so similar to some churches or MLM companies. You were in the circle or the group, and you only hear cheers, praise, compliments, positive stuffs about the circle or group. And you are somehow being “told” into believing that it is really good stuff and worth waiting, even though you are making nothing now.

I am glad that I am out. And thanks for giving me such opportunity, to milk every drop out from Advertlets, kekekeke.

I Opted OUT, of Gliteratti, and You?

Today is the day, if I remember correctly.

And, my conclusion is, basically no damage to me even if I am not in the club.

No, I am not a fanboy of advetlets, not before, even not after their saga. It’s just that, since day 1, my earning from nuffnang has been pathetic. Those from advertlets is not fantastic, but at least I saw something moving. It just does not justify the result if I were to take away other ads and keep only nuffnang, just to be in the club, with no guaranteed ad nor any promise. Yes, I know that, most likely is because the style of my other blog is not suitable for the ads, the advertiser, or not good enough, sucks. Since I am not going to change my style, so I change the ads networks.

Yes, I am out. And from today onwards, I cannot use the innit already. Fortunately, I still have ping.sg. And maybe I should register this blog with Blog2U.sg also. I am not any big time blogger who always got ads from nuffnang and can earn 4 digits amount from them. So I can only look for all this ikan bilis. I really do not mind having thousands of ikan bilis……

Email from Josh Lim, Advertlets Announced Compensation Plan

Open my gmail and saw a mail from Josh, same title as the one he sended out few days back, “Advertlets.com - We’re Sorry”. Initially I thought it was a repeated email. Upon reading it, then I realized it was about their compensation plan to bloggers, about their recent domain name cock-up.

Here is the details:

Hi Advertlets Members,

Some of you may have noted this over the past few days, but we wanted to make sure before notifying our members. We’ll like to officially announce that we are fully back online now as DNS servers internationally have now resolved. Hence, all issues regarding the code have been resolved and you can reinstate your Advertlets Ad units.

However, if you have problems accessing your account, please contact info@advertlets.com. We noted that some members have misspelled e-mails (eg, gmial.com), so please ensure that your e-mail address is entered correctly for us to validate your account and contact you if needed.

We understand that the recent service downtime caused much inconvenience, and we aim to make up for it. As our Singaporean members might have noticed today in The New Paper, we have announced our compensation plan. As compensation for the recent downtime, you will earn an additional 10-20% extra on top of all legit earnings the month of January. The amount will be calculated at the end of January, and credited within the first week of February.

The ratio of the percentage increase will be based on the duration of time you have been with Advertlets. Members who have been
with Advertlets longer, will receive a higher ratio. We hope that this is a suitable compensation for the downtime period faced, and hope you can accept this as a sign of our commitment to not repeat mistakes, and to continue to deliver better service in future.

Hence, we advise you to reinstall your ad code formats as before to maximize your earnings from Advertlets. Just as a general guide, the maximum number of ads you can place per page is 4. Here are notes on our ad formats, to help you optimize your placements. They are arranged in the order of which will bring you the best results when placed on your blog, most optimal ad formats first.

-165×240 (Sidebar ad, to be placed high up enough the page to be visible without scrolling)
-336×280 (Best between blog posts, or after posts in the comments section)
-468×60 (To be placed on top of the page, good for those with international traffic)
-180×150 (To be placed inside posts, sidebar, etc)

In addition, we will have more campaigns in the next few days to blogs, as well as a new premium ad format (720×90) that will deliver better earnings through its prominence and placing. The new ad format will be part of Advertlets 2.0. Please contact us if you would like to test out the new ad formats together with more exciting features such as earning graphs, trend monitoring, social features and more.

Thank you. We look forward to delivering you a better blog advertising experience. Please contact info@advertlets.com or myself at josh.lim@advertlets.com if you have any questions in future.

Regards,

Josh Lim

My earning from Advertlets has been very very little since start of 2008, like what I said here. They said it is due to the contract expiry of previous advertisers. I got the feeling that, even with 10-20% more, it is still very very little. But I shall see what happens at the end of this month…
