Got Advertlets, Got FACES

Yeah, if you got Advertlets ads, you got faces! Kekeke, joking lah. I am referring to a contest for all Singapore and Malaysia Advertlets bloggers offer by FACES. What is FACES? Seriously I am not very familiar with it. Think I only came across the magazine once or twice one or two years back. But thanks to Advertlets, I get to know more about FACES now. From FACES homepage, I saw that there are sections about music, IT, travel, movies, and ect. I like watching movies, think I have got 1 more sources to get some latest movie reviews now.

So, what is the contest about? You can go HERE to take a look. Basically, register yourself as FACES member if you are not. Then go back to the page, select the freebies that you like, fill your blog’s URL into the entry form. Actually I am getting a bit confused also. Josh said there are 6 contests for us Advertlets bloggers, can choose from any of the 6 freebies, but on that page, it only said the Starbucks freebies are reserved for Advertlets bloggers, not the others. But anyway, I want the Starbucks, so no difference.

So, what is the virtues of Starbucks? To me, it is none other than providing a comfortable venue with relaxed ambience. I have to say that besides selling great coffees, latte, mocha and tasty pastries, it is the environment that keeps the customers there. Imagine in the afternoon, under the burning hot sun, you walk into any Starbucks outlet, order your favourite mocha (and pastry if you want some), just relax on the sofa at one corner, enjoy the aircon and soothing music. You can either read your favourite books (of course you bring your own lah) or surfing Internet, chatting over MSN, or blogging, with your laptop (of course you bring your own laptop there also…, ok PDA, Blackberry, Ipod Touch also can…). What a way to kill your afternoon right?

Then, how Starbucks outlets can improve? If I am not wrong, I think there are already albums under Starbucks’ label sold in Starbucks outlets in America. What I am thinking is relevant to music also, but further than that. I want live music! Starbucks can set up a small stage in some of those more spacious outlets, then invite some live band, or performers to perform. It can be Jazz, or Bosanova, Acapella, or anything nice. Anything that is great for a hot afternoon or romantic evening. Also, Starbucks can even encourage their staffs, who are talented, and willing to share, to perform on stage also. This is a way to build up their self confidence also. In a way, Starbucks is grooming their future leaders, who knows, right?

Yeah, I think I have written a bit too much. So, would you like some FACES or a cup of Starbucks coffee?

Starbuck Offers $1 Coffee and Free Refills!

I seldom visit Starbuck or any other cafe chains. 1 reason is that I find them too expensive. But if Starbuck really offers $1 coffee and free refills, for sure I will visit more! Too bad this is just a test in Seattle.

Seattle Starbucks tests $1 coffee and free refills
Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:52pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O: Quote, Profile, Research) is testing $1 coffee and free refills in its Seattle outlets as the global gourmet coffee chain grapples with slower consumer spending and rising competition from fast-food rivals.

Company shares were up at midday on the Nasdaq, rising 2.3 percent, or 43 cents, to $19.11.

Starbucks is experimenting with a smaller, “short” $1 cup as well as free refills for brewed coffee. Starbucks charges around $1.50 to $4.00 for a coffee, depending on size and flavor.

In a statement, Starbucks said, “This test is not indicative of any new business strategy.”

The company said testing is part of its ongoing business and that the company will not comment on specifics of its test campaigns until a final decision is made.

Shares in Starbucks have lost around half their value over the past year amid worries about U.S. consumer spending, over-expansion and competition from fast-food rivals such as McDonald’s Corp (MCD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) that offer specialty coffees.

Regular coffee prices at both McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, a unit of Dunkin’ Brands Inc., start in the low $1 range.

Starbucks announced a management reshuffle earlier this year, bringing Howard Schultz back into the chief executive position. It also said it would close underperforming U.S. outlets and speed up international growth.

Starbucks has around 15,000 stores around the world including over 10,000 in the United States.
