Customer Beaten Up By 3 In Sim Lim Square
Aug 7, 2008 Gossips, Scandals, Singapore, Stupid Stuffs
This is what I read from a local forum. A forumer wrote about his own experience just few days back which he was beaten by 3 thugs from one of the shops in Sim Lim Square, 2nd floor.
I just want to warn everyone to AVOID going to unit # 02-xx in Sim Lim Square. They are grotesque scammers that has the tendency to be physically violent to customers. I was one of their unfortunate victims. Their signboad says ‘Evolutxxn Gxxing LLP’, but as I was researching on the net, they apparently regularly change their store name. They used to be called MH Electxxnics, or Mxxxle Hxxse Exxctronics. And a neighbouring store that’s unit # 02-xx also used to be ‘Exxxution Gaming’. They were also called ‘Compxxt Caxxra’. I’ve read a lot of complaints from that store too.
Anyway, here’s what happened. My girlfiend and I went to Sim Lim to buy a PSP. I know, it was quite stupid of me to go there for a PSP. It’s all over the net that the last place to buy a PSP is in Sim Lim. I went anyway, thinking it’s “not gonna happen to me” (i was dead wrong). So we went to different shops to ask for prices. The prices we got were 360, and 340.. complete with all the necessary stuff like battery, 4G card, cable, case, and modification. When we got to unit # 02-xx (Exxlution Gxxxng LxP), they quoted us $308. That was too cheap.. but it was almost 9pm and I was just tired and wanted the PSP. So I said I’ll take one. The sales guy was friendly. He’s tall, fat, and had a lot of pimples on his face. He took our money and said he’ll modify it in front of us. After the so-called modification, he showed the PSP to me… and it was lagging! He said the modification took much of the RAM and it needed an upgrade, and that we had to pay $200! Holy sh*t… and while he was selling the upgrade to me, he kept calling me ‘my friend…’. That was just annoying. I said we don’t have that kind of money, and we’d like to get our money back. From here, things got ugly. The store owner (tall, skinny, and also had a lot of pimples) started shouting at us, saying just take the PSP, the we’re wasting his time, etc. And another guy tried to talk to us,this short little guy with glasses, squeaky voice, introduced as the store manager. He tried to explain about the upgrade. But we’ve heard enough. We just wanted our money back, and we were not leaving. Finally they said we could have our money back, but since the PSP has already been modified, we should pay the GST (wtf!). After much debate, I just said fine.. if that’s what it takes to just leave this place, then ok. So they gave us our money, less gst (that’s $21 - not bad, but still hurts). We were so pissed leaving the store. I decided to take a photo of the store premises so I could have a ’souvenir’ for the event. Suddenly, this little guy with glasses (store manager, they say) started to slap me in the face! (I’m not sure if it was a slap or a punch.. looked like a punch, felt like a slap) He also shoulted at me with his small squeaky voice. I prepared to hit back, aiming at his small face.. but suddenly I see this tall lanky guy running from the store carrying a metal stool. And the fat pimply guy who tried to sell the PSP also came out running towards us too. The little guy’s got backup! So now there’s 3 of them, and one of me. I remember thinking, if I fight back, this is going to get ugly for me. But then, the short guy took a plastic chair and continued to hit me, as well as this tall guy with the metal stool! Unit # 02-76 Evolution Gaming LLP is situated at the corner of the floor. The beating continued until we reached the escalator. They hit me on the face, the arms, and body. My girlfriend was just shouting ‘please stop!’. Suddenly they demanded for me to delete the photo.. i had no choice but to comply. After deleting (they continued to hit me by the way), Sim Lim security came in the scene. The little guy gave me one last hit on the body with his reliable plastic chair. After that, security called the police. The police came to talk to me, then went up to talk to the store owner (tall pimply guy). The guys that attacked me where no longer there (of course). We went to the police station, I gave a statement, they gave me a medical form, we went to the hospital to document the scratches I obtained from the attack. The police said that they were going to launch an investigation about it.
So now here I am writing about it. The net has got loads of warning stories like this about the scamming happening in Sim Lim. Let this be an additional story about it. I haven’t actually read about any violence happening, so I think this is the first.
Reading up on the net, here’s a few more stories/complains about unit #02-xx / Exxlution Gxxing LLP for scamming and bad service.
This one is when they were still called Moxxle Hoxxe Elxxtronics Pte Ltd (signboard MH Elecxxxnics): http://forums.************.com.sg/sh….php?t=1696186
Here’s another one about #02-xx where they have bad attitude: http://talkback.stomp.com.sg/forums/…p/t-10687.html
Here’s another one about Evoluxxon Gaxxing LLP:
http://imcomplicatedyetsosimple.blog…m-sim-lim.htmlAnd another one for Evoxxtion Gamxxg LLP:
http://forums.gameaxis.com/showthrea…Sim+lim+squareAnd another yet one… “Extreme Lousey Service in Sim Lim Sqare”. This time it’s in #02-xx but still called “Evxxution Gxxing LLP” (it’s either they like exchanging signboards, or its the same owner): http://forums.gameaxis.com/showthread.php?t=1482761
Here’s another on #02-xx, but it’s no longer called “Evoxxtion Gaxxng”.. This time their signboard says “Coxxact Cxxera”: http://forums.************.com.sg/sh….php?t=1793609
And another one on #02-xx: http://********.com/forums/2535/topics/313622
So I guess # 02-xx and # 02-xx exchange names, and has the same modus operandi. Everyone beware of these shops!
I made some changes to the article to protect Jialat.
This is so so so bad, really bad to us consumers, customers. How can thugs still survive in SLS nowadays? Sometimes I went then walk walk jalan jalan, the salespeople in some shops really can make me vomit blood. Talk loud loud, no service, or always use some gimmicks to cheat customers. Fortunately I have a friend who works there, and I always go there for advice.
Guys, let’s boycott thugs shop! Spread the words!

You Don’t Need IT Experts to Do That, Samy
Jun 2, 2008 Gossips
To “rebut allegations against the party on the Internet”, and to “attend to the complaints through the party’s call centre”, you only needs secondary school or Diploma students who are “hardworking enough”. You don’t need IT experts to answer the phone calls in your call centre, those are helpdesk or operator’s duty. To be more exact, your IT experts don’t solve the problems for you, your party.
By the way, since when a political party becomes a privilege member club?

I somehow feel that this kind of game will encourage teenagers to be more and more violent. Anyway, I am not a gamer. That’s just my personal feeling.

Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo!
Feb 1, 2008 IT
This is shocking! Never know that M$ is interested in Yahoo. Haha, in the news, it mentioned that both are struggling to beat competition from Google. I do prefer Google over Yahoo, I use Gmail, no Yahoo Mail also. Will this buying-over be a successful one? We shall see.

Microsoft bids $44.6 billion for Yahoo
By Ina Fried
http://www.news.com/Microsoft-bids-44.6-billion-for-Yahoo/2100-1014_3-6228705.htmlStory last modified Fri Feb 01 05:42:47 PST 2008
Microsoft went public Friday with a $44.6 billion cash-and-stock bid to acquire Yahoo.
In its response, Yahoo called the Microsoft bid “unsolicited” but did not reject it.
Microsoft’s offer, which was contained in a letter to Yahoo’s board, amounts to $31 a share and represents a 62 percent premium over Yahoo’s closing price on Thursday. Microsoft said it will offer shareholders the option of cash or stock.
“We have great respect for Yahoo, and together, we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers, and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online-services market,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a statement.
Yahoo said in a responding statement that its board “will evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly, in the context of Yahoo’s strategic plans, and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders.”
The deal comes as Microsoft and Yahoo have both struggled to compete against Google.
Microsoft didn’t mention Google by name in its announcement, but it did indicate that its acquisition bid was aimed squarely at its rival.
“Today, the market is increasingly dominated by one player, who is consolidating its dominance through acquisition,” Microsoft said. “Together, Microsoft and Yahoo can offer a credible alternative for consumers, advertisers, and publishers.”
Microsoft said it believed it can get all of the needed regulatory approvals and said the deal, if ultimately approved by Yahoo shareholders, could be completed in the second half of the year.
Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Jupiter Research, said it’s “clear that there is increased pressure on Microsoft from Google and they recognize that. Way back when, Yahoo wasn’t that interested in a Microsoft deal. What a difference two years make. Microsoft has a pile of money, and Yahoo has experienced problems of its own. Ballmer, in the past, has historically not loved these types of deals. It is indicative of how different the world is now.”
Gartenberg added that the deal “absolutely” makes sense. “But there is a lot to be done in the details. Getting this deal done might be the easiest part. The real challenge is what happens when they finish the deal. This is not a panacea–the details will be what matters,” he said.
Rumors that Microsoft was interested in Yahoo have bubbled up from time to time, including the past two springs, on the eve of Microsoft advertising conferences.
The move would be by far the largest acquisition ever for Microsoft. Its largest prior deal, also in the online-advertising space, was last year’s $6 billion deal to acquire Aquantive.
In a letter sent to Yahoo’s board late Thursday, Microsoft confirmed that it has had talks with Yahoo since 2006, but that its suggestions of an acquisition had been rebuffed.
“In late 2006 and early 2007, we jointly explored a broad range of ways in which our two companies might work together,” Microsoft said. “These discussions were based on a vision that the online businesses of Microsoft and Yahoo should be aligned in some way to create a more effective competitor in the online marketplace. We discussed a number of alternatives ranging from commercial partnerships to a merger proposal, which you rejected.”
The letter goes on to say that an offer in February 2007 was also rejected. Although at one time, Microsoft was open to other kinds of partnerships with Yahoo, the company says now it just wants to own Yahoo outright.

The public offer follows the Yahoo’s disappointing earnings report on Tuesday, which sent the company’s shares down. Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang also said Tuesday that the company was facing “headwinds” and announced 1,000 layoffs.
Terry Semel, Yahoo’s former CEO, who left that position last summer but remained as non-executive chairman of the board, left the company altogether on Thursday.
Yahoo shares were up 54 percent to $29.52 in premarket trading Friday.
Microsoft’s financial advisers are Morgan Stanley and Blackstone.
Microsoft has scheduled a conference call for later Friday morning.

Things I never notice until…
Dec 24, 2007 IT
… until recently……
I know I am being WOLS, but I really did not realize that my gmail account size has been increased to over 5GB! I only remember few months back it was still crawling at about 2 something GB. This is really big size, but, it really doesn’t mean much to me. I doubt I will even use half of it! Actually the size is not so important, but the allowed file size for attachments means more to me. If only we could send me with bigger file attached……
I admit that, I have been downloading mp3 files using Baidu.com (百度). Only no long ago, then I found that Baidu has stopped the mp3 or song search service! I went to make a search, and ot returned zero found! And I could not find any relevant news, info on net, only this: Baidu’s MP3 search now banned in the US and Germany. This is really bad to me. How am I going to get the Mandarin pop songs that I know now? Where can I get them?
Then, 3rd thing, I just found a very useful tool to convert WMA file to MP3 file. It is called Jodix Free WMA to MP3 Converter. It is a freeware, very light weight, and easy to use. It can be downloaded here: http://www.wma-mp3.org/.
