There Is a Cheapo Low Class Boss in My Office
Mar 4, 2008 Ranting, Singapore, Stupid Stuffs, Terrible Stuffs, Work
I should have written about this few days back, but I was too lazy.
Some background 1st. There are a few managers in my office. This particular one (female, middle aged) is not my direct boss, but manager leading other team of staff handling other responsibilities. And the staff turnover rate pf that team is very very very high. I have been in my company for about 15 months only and I have lost counts of the people who came and left, came and left.
Her team sometimes work rather closely with the one I am in, and both teams need to do shift work. Their night team people are rather close to my team also. Thing about working night shift is, when nothing happens, you are rather relaxed. So, sometimes we watch movies, online streaming, reading, sleep, or play lan game, together with that team.
This poor guy is a fans of Japs anime I guess. When he was free, he would watch anime online. Once, he kena complained, or more accurately, backstabbed by a much senior guy. Complained to his manager, which is that cheapo lady. Not all staffs in the company are permanent staffs, and this guy fell into the contract staffs group whose contracts (managed by a outsourced manpower management company) are renewed yearly. So, after she received the reports from the senior guy, she requested change his contract to monthly renewed, and he will be judged based on his performance. And subsequently, his pay was reduced to some where just above $1500 (not sure got include shift allowance or not). This guy accepted all these, think he was just lazy to go through all the troubles of finding jobs again since he is also taking part time degree course.
And, best thing came last week. The manager asked the guy to stay after his shift of 28th, which is on 29th morning. Then he was told by the manager that she did not want to renew his contract already and do not need to come to work anymore, reason being “he is not contributing to the company”. Also, she claimed that she “managed to fight for 2 weeks pay for this guy”. Yes, 2 weeks, a lots right? This guy must be sooooo grateful to her.
This is such a cheapo way to handle such issue and I feel that this ex-colleague has been treated in a very unfair manner. My colleague has advised him to seek opinions from MOM, see if there is anything can be done or not.
Two New Work Passes for Foreign Workers to be Introduced
Jan 26, 2008 Life, Singapore, Work
I believe this is to encourage more foreigners to come here on short time assignment basis. Will this enforcement bring more complaints from the public? Full time job kena taken away, now short term/ part time assignments also in danger. How is this going to affect the public?
Taken from Yahoo Singapore:
Two new work passes for foreign workers to be introduced
Channel NewsAsia - Saturday, January 26SINGAPORE: From 1 February, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will no longer issue Professional Visit Passes (PVPs) to foreigners working here on short—term assignments.
Instead, two new passes — the Miscellaneous Work Pass and Work Permit (Performing Artiste) will be introduced by the Ministry of Manpower.
The Miscellaneous Work Pass, which is valid for 60 days, will be given to those involved in activities directly related to an organisation, such as religious workers who are giving talks and foreign journalists.
Foreign artistes performing here will need to apply for the Work Permit (Performing Artiste), which is valid for up to six months.
But foreigners providing highly specialised skills for a short period of time may have the flexibility to enter Singapore and perform certain activities without a Work Pass.
Those exempted from obtaining a Work Pass will need to notify the ministry via its website at www.mom.gov.sg. — CNA/ac
Rite Pizza in Office
Jan 2, 2008 Makan
This afternoon, 3 of us all did not feel like going out makan, so we decided to order delivery. Rite Pizza is choice of the day!
It is a 1 for 1 order. We ordered 1 BBQ chicken and get another free, so we took Hawaiian. Then, we added in a 7 pieces chicken wings, a green salad and a calamari. Total is S$39. Because the order is over S$38, so we got 1 bottle of free drinks.
It took them about 1 hour to prepare and deliver it to my office, which is located at Kaki Bukit, which is quite reasonable.
I have to say that, although Rite Pizza’s pizza looks plain, but it tastes good! All the ingredients are underneath the topping, and they are delicious! Some more, the chicken wings are marinated with bbq sauce, and all tasted good!
I admit that, $39 for a 3-person lunch is kind of, slightly expensive. But, as a celebration of 2008, and the 1st day of our working days in 2008, who cares?

How Did I Spend My Christmas Day?
Dec 25, 2007 Work
How?
I spent my 2007 Christmas Day WORKING whole day in office! Yes I did!
Due to the nature of my current job, I had to go back to office and spent my whole day there. Of course, it feels like sh|t! Definitely you will feel sad when almost everyone of you friends, peers is either resting, relaxing at home watching TV, listening to musics, or shopping outside, or catching movies, and you are the only one left out. The feeling is really really bad. And I really did not feel like waking up and going for work in the morning. But I still did. I am a responsible guy. Since the roster is like that, I accepted it.
Of course, there are something good working on Christmas Day, or most public holidays. First of all, since I had no plan to go out, or any other activity for the day, and most likely I would spend the day at home playing computer games and surfing net, why don’t I go to work and earn some OT? It makes sense to me. Furthermore, it is a public holiday for almost every country in APAC, which means most of my company’s offices in APAC region would not be working, except those in China, Japan, Thailand. Less users, less problems, meaning? Less work for us to do. And best part is, basically all of those in my office would not be working except for those in our team. It means the office is OURS! I can bring along my laptop to office, play my games, surf my net, and at the same time, earn my OT!
Another thing bad working on PH is that not many makan places open for the day, so we got very little choice. Today, we resorted to…

Sick of Mac, we chose KFC Buddy set.
OK, there is another hour before the end of this Christmas Day, just a song for you:
To learn about the latest watches, whether it is rolex watches you are interested in, or the fossil watches or even seiko watches, the best place to go is a fashion information site.
